Yesterday I got the chance to spend some time as a mom at Gianni's school. I took a half day at work and went in for Gianni's Thanksgiving Feast and a walk around the school to raise awareness and money for Diabetes. The kids all dressed in little pilgrim hats. So cute!

The cafeteria tables were decorated for Thanksgiving and lunch was freshly carved turkey or ham, potatoes, stuffing, green beans, rolls, cranberries, and a turkey shaped cookie. It was actually delicious. I was so happy to be there with him. The school is filled with parent volunteers, that is what makes it such a good school. I wish that I could participate more. After lunch we walked for Diabetes. We read statistics together and held hands along the way. When it was time to leave he started to get tears in his eyes but my big boy held it together for mommy because I probably would have cried if he cried.
In the evening we went back to his school as a family for a Family Fun Night. Tonight it was a story time session. The kids dressed in PJ's and listened as teachers and the principal read stories. The kids received free milk and cookies and we took them into the library as well. Gianni started the Accelerated Reader program and took his first online test. Basically you read a book with him and then read him the test on the computer. It is good for reading comprehension. The computer keeps track of his score and then he can use his points for prizes. Hey...anything to promote an interest in reading. It was a fun and different evening.
